Pollution Prevention Institute          
The Pollution Prevention Institute (PPI) is an agency within Engineering Extension at Kansas State University.  PPI provides confidential, technical, environmental pollution prevention and compliance assistance to businesses and institutions.  PPI also operates the Kansas Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBEAP).  SBEAP is an air-focused assistance program mainly serving Kansas small businesses.   SBEAP is funded by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).

PPI also provides resources for environmental management systems (EMS) development, energy efficiency, and other assistance to communities, hospitals, colleges, and large businesses.

 Nancy LarsonNancy Larson, R.S.: As director for the Pollution Prevention Institute, Nancy is located at K-State Research and Extension Office in Wichita. She is experienced in nearly all areas of environmental health, air quality and hazardous waste regulations, multimedia pollution prevention, and PBTs (persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic substances). Nancy works with a variety of industries, but specializes in pollution prevention services to healthcare institutions. E-mail: nlarson@ksu.edu

PPI’s vision is for a healthy Kansas environment that fosters economic and environmental sustainability and growth.
  • PPI’s mission is to promote sustainability through environmental education and services to industry and institutions. These services include environmental compliance and pollution prevention technical assistance.
  • SBEAP’s mission is to help Kansas small businesses comply with environmental regulations and identify pollution prevention opportunities.
